A few kilometers from Atacames, after passing the Peñon del Suicida (or "Suicide Rock"), an extraordinary natural viewpoint of a hundred meters high plunging into the ocean, we reach the small fishing village of Súa. It stretches along a beach of clear sand with calm waters. At low tide, you can walk at the foot of the cliff between Acatames and Súa (be careful not to get trapped by the tide!). Note that part of the promenade along the beach was destroyed by heavy swells in 2019 and is awaiting reconstruction. The main activity of Súa is fishing. The colourful boats rest on the beach between two sea trips. Pacific languor obliges! Of all the seaside resorts in the province, it is one of our favorites (along with Mompiche). Frigatebirds and pelicans have taken up residence here in large numbers and from June to September, humpback whales can be seen off its coast. Súa is the port of departure for boats offering humpback whale watching tours. The excursions are led by specialized naturalist guides. Departures are exclusively in the morning at 8am (duration: 3 hours). Fishing trips are also available. Meet on the Malecon.
