Travel Guide Mompiche

Wrapped in a tropical vegetation, Mompiche is a small fishing village much appreciated for its powerful waves, its long stretches of sand and its relaxed atmosphere. It nestles in a sheltered bay connected to the modern world by road only a decade ago. Here again, the 2016 earthquake hit hard and washed away the fragile seaside buildings in its path. Fortunately, time passed and life returned to normal in the months that followed. While in the area, be sure to visit Portete Island and bask on its beautiful white sandy beach located a few kilometres south of the village. Mompiche also offers the possibility of escaping to the sea to observe the cetaceans, of practising hiking in the forest, of offering a horse ride or of course, of surfing the wave!
