Steung Treng is the last Cambodian town in the north, at the confluence of the Mekong and Sekong rivers. It has a certain old-fashioned charm, with pretty traditional wooden houses. The province is renowned for its excellent tamarinds and the now rare pa si hi fish. A statue of the fish stands in the center of town, next to the landing stage. Steung Treng is beginning to attract tourists as a result of the opening of the border with Laos. It is a gateway to the superb province of Ratanakiri... Most bus journeys require a changeover in this stopover town.
