It is the first island in the north of the archipelago and also the largest: 16 km long and 8 km wide. It has about 5,500 inhabitants. Muang Khong is the main village, the chief town, it is located on the eastern bank. The other village is Muang Saen, in the west. It is the usual tourist drop-off point, as there is no other accommodation available. Rice fields occupy the centre of Don Khong. Bucolic landscape at harvest time in October and November. There are beautiful walks to do; you will also see temples in each of the villages, an authentic fruit and vegetable market and take a lazy break on the beach!
