Travel Guide Koro

Koro is located on a track, about ten kilometres from Bobo-Dioulasso, from National Road 1 towards the capital Ouaga. The site is clearly indicated. It is a normally inhabited cave village (3,100 inhabitants) and open to tourism. A small kiosk serves as an entrance counter (1,000 CFA francs per person for a guided tour), a refreshment bar keeps him company.The income from the visit goes back to the village through a partnership with the ONTB. The village of Koro has the particularity of being built on a rocky peak. The reason for this strategic location, but difficult for the daily life of the inhabitants (water has to be brought up on foot on the cliff), dates back to the colonial period. The village is reached by a small step on a slightly steep slope. This particularity makes the life of the village less dynamic than the village of Koumi, at least its activity is more uncertain because most of the farmers are in the fields below and do not occupy the village all year round.Three districts make up the village: the peasants' district, the blacksmiths' district and the Dioula district. The first two districts are Bobo of the Bobo-Fing people. They are animists, and we find here and there their fetishes. The third district is occupied by Dioula, a people of merchants, Muslims or Catholics. The three districts provide mutual services to each other. The view from the village over the surrounding landscape is magnificent. In particular, you can see the Banfora cliffs that originate in the region. Very beautiful mask outings (March-April period), check with the village guides to attend.Back at the counter, it is possible to pick up your vehicle (preferably a 4x4) and go for a walk below the village along the river. A few years ago, a botanical garden was nearby, it was very well known for its species, the Dior house was one of the sponsors of the place! Unfortunately today, the vegetation has invaded this space, which only needs a new youth!
