Iona is a small magical island, mysterious, sacred place at the end of the world. Saint Colomba settled there in 563 to found his mission. Iona was home to one of the most important libraries of Christianity, which was sacked by the Vikings and then by the reformers in the 16th century. Literary, religious and artistic works (notably the manuscripts of Virgil) were destroyed, lost or hidden. Some believe that the treasures of Iona are sleeping in the well of an island where the penitent monks used to go. The island lends itself to walks and hikes, in sites marked by legends and history. Accessible from the island of Mull.
