The Tanners' square, with a column supporting two lions holding a shield, in Bruges.
The Place des Tanneurs is picturesque, although overrun by tourist restaurants. Here is the former guild house (1630-1716) of the huidenvetters (in Flemish "skin greaser") or tanners, dating from the end of the 17th century. It is easy to recognize: a column supporting two lions holding a shield, the emblem of the old trade. The square leads to the most photographed place in the city: Rozenhoedkaai, the Rosary Quay.
