A beautiful neo-gothic church with exhibitions.
This mid-nineteenth-century neo-Gothic church (one of the first of its kind) is more than a religious building. Madeleine wants to be a piece of heaven on earth, where everyone is welcome, regardless of sex, color, creed... and where everyone can live a little piece of heaven. That's why we chose the slogan " A little piece of heaven ". This slogan also refers to the church's original blue vault, which has completely crumbled over the years. The little pieces of blue are offered to visitors as "a little piece of heaven".
Since July 2023, the church of Sainte-Madeleine has had a new logo, a new portal and audio guides, even in French, for a 25-minute spiritual journey. More than ever, an inspiring place to recharge your batteries..

YOT - an experiment on space, man and religion in the church of St. Mary Magdalene.
The church of the Madeleine is an oasis of rest for all those who stop there-
a meeting place next to the nearby park-
a stop on the road for those who are searching-
a place of prayer for the faithful-
a place where the great moments of life are celebrated-
a place where art and spirituality go hand in hand-
a place where violence is banished
. It was Pierre Buyck, an architect from Bruges, who drew up the plans for the church of Saint Magdalene around 1848, following the indications of the English architects Thomas Harper King and August Welby Northmore Pugin, both of whom were well known in Anglophile circles in Bruges.
The result was a remarkable building, erected between 1850 and 1853 by the entrepreneur Antoine Verbeke, south of the former convent of the Friars Minor. When the interior was completed in 1910, it was a unique neo-gothic work, because it was uniform in its architecture, furniture and decoration
