Medun was first a fortress before being a city. Founded between the 4th and 3rd centuries B.C. by the Illyrian tribes of Labeati and Medeati, it fell into the hands of the Romans in 167 A.D. Little excavated by archaeologists, the site has undoubtedly still many secrets to reveal. Thus, reliefs that would prove the existence of rituals related to the cult of the snake have been brought to light. Among the remains currently visible are the columns of a Gothic basilica, sarcophagi, the remains of a bridge over the Morača River and the ruins of a necropolis, located north of the upper city. Access to the site is free.
