Located 100 km from Cali and 45 km from Buga, at an altitude of 1,500 m, this artificial lake surrounded by mountains owes its existence to the construction of a hydroelectric dam. It is one of the windiest lakes in South America, which makes it a paradise for water sports, especially kitesurfing. Many centers offer equipment rental and lessons. The main village, Calima El Darién, is pleasant and typical. Its foggy surroundings, which can be explored on foot, horseback or by bicycle, attract tourists from the Caleños who are looking for nature. A small archaeological museum, open only on weekdays, presents more than 1,800 pieces of the Calima culture. Outside, in a beautiful garden, replicas of traditional houses during the different periods of the Calima era.
