Known as Ciudad Verde, " green city", Cayey is nestled in a valley in the heart of the Sierra de Cayey. The municipality marks the beginning of the Ruta Panorámica, a 266-kilometer-long scenic route that winds through the mountains. And because it is much cooler and cloudier than the coast, the city is also known as the Ciudad de las Brumas, which means "the city of fog". If you only have a few hours to spare, Charco Azul, a deep blue water hole in the Carite forest, is a nice place to take a walk (easily accessible via a footpath from Route 184).
