Coamo, founded in 1570, is one of the oldest towns on the island, after San Juan and San Germán. The Catholic church of San Blas de Illescas dates from 1784. The town hall houses a French clock from 1898. Coamo is known as the city of marathon runners. For the past 50 years it has hosted the San Blas Half Marathon, an international event that attracts athletes from all over the world. But it is mainly its thermal waters that make Coamo a must-see. The baths date back to 1571, and at the time the Spaniards believed that it was the fountain of youth, ensuring eternal life.
