This small seaside resort is located 7 km north of the city of Tacuarembó. The term Iporá is said to mean "fresh water" in the language of the original inhabitants of the area. It was born from a concept of a private beach resort that became municipal (although it still has private areas) and was inaugurated by its founder, Felipe Albornoz, on December 8, 1965. The area contains a campground, playgrounds (beach volleyball), an open-air swimming pool and an artificial lake, the "Lago de la Juventud", built from a natural spring that feeds the water. The site is shaded by eucalyptus, pine and other species.
