Situated astride two islands, Wolin and Uznam, and 2 km from Germany, Świnoujście is an outport of Szczecin, from where you can take a ferry to Denmark or Sweden. Like the rest of the region, it remained German until 1945. Today, it's a major fishing and trading port, as well as an important naval base. The town is ordinary, but the site is original and boasts a beautiful beach, which is the main tourist attraction. Germans and Poles love to visit in summer. The area lends itself to sports tourism, ideal for cycling, hiking and water sports.
