The town of Rheinsberg, north of Berlin, is best known for its castle, peacefully set on the shores of the lake (the Grienericksee). From 1736 until the death of his father in 1740, the Crown Prince and future King of Prussia Frederick II lived here. Rheinsberg is also an astonishing holiday port village to the north of the town, made up of recent houses inspired by traditional architecture and arranged in series. The region, the Ruppiner Land, is well worth a visit; it is a very rural country of lakes and forests. Rheinsberg is quite a long way from Berlin and rather poorly served, but can still be the subject of a day trip
