The town of Słupsk has long been an important city in the region, now Pomerania's third-largest after Gdańsk and Gdynia. It has always been relatively prosperous, since its foundation in the 11th century, and was once an important ducal seat, as evidenced by its fine castral complex which today houses the formidable Museum of Central Pomerania. The small town also boasts a magnificent town hall, bizarrely built at great expense when the town was in fact just a market town of 5,000 inhabitants! Today, it's a major communications hub, a lively city with a heritage worth a short visit.
