This town, 235 km northeast of Warsaw, is the obligatory stopover before you head to the Białowieźa National Park, located right next door. Hajnówka once served as a staging post for hunters of bison and other game from the surrounding forest. Today, it's a rather lethargic town with a peaceful charm, half-Polish, half-Belarusian, living mainly from the timber industry. It boasts a singularly beautiful Orthodox church. Hajnówka doesn't have much more to offer visitors, but its atmosphere is certainly a change of scenery. It's easy to get there by bus from Białowieźa and other towns in the region.
