This large town of about 36 000 inhabitants is the capital of the department. It was founded around 1530 on the site of a Workshop stand. Located at 400 m above sea level, it has no tourist prestige, but is mainly a point of access to the two surrounding national parks. We produce in the surroundings (starting February for the Holy Week) an amazing wine, from the palm Coyol. We recommend you try it if you go to the region at this time.
