20 km from Pueblo Nuevo, fossilized bones of mastodons and other prehistoric animals dating back 30 000 years were discovered in 1974, on the archaeological site El Bosque. It is located in the direction of San Juan de Limay, a pleasant mountain village, famous for its craftsmen (sculptures on white stone of marmolina). Petroglyphs can also be observed in zoomorphes figures. A great opportunity to purchase an article or two authentic crafts and to know a traditional village in Nicaragua. It is also possible to observe monkeys (scream monkeys, white-headed monkeys and monkeys) in the private nature reserve of Salto Colocondo, according to the waterfall of the same name, to which you can go. Take the bus to San Juan de Limay and descend to the community of San Luis.
