Grip is the main island in an archipelago of 82 islands. Located 14 km off the coast of Kristiansund, this fishing hamlet is only inhabited in summer. The superb wooden church, built in 1400, features a fine medieval Dutch triptych. Mass is celebrated at 5:30 p.m. on certain Sundays in summer, and on the feast of St. Olav, August 29.A special atmosphere reigns on this outpost far out to sea. One autumn night in 1796, during a heavy storm, the sea swept away up to 100 of the hamlet's houses. Summer tourist visits to Grip. Only one small café-restaurant, no tourist accommodation.
