Travel Guide Lac De Rkiz

In winter, from Rosso to Bogué, then to Kaédi, it is necessary to make this journey through Rkîz, the direct track along the river being impracticable. This is an opportunity to admire this lake of 150 km² which, in periods of high water, serves as a water reserve. It is fed both by the rainy season and by the Senegal River. The lake of Rkîz is the least known of the tourists visiting Mauritania, however it shelters several species of birds as well as some crocodiles with cuirassée neck. The region between Mederdra, Rkîz and the Senegal River is essentially agricultural, thanks to numerous areas of flood recession cultivation.
