Located in the lagoon, facing the Dumbea pass, Signal islet is an integral part of the South Lagoon reserve and is home to a particularly rich and varied marine fauna. It was first named Sénez islet by Tardy de Montravel in 1854, in memory of officer Vincent Sénez, who explored the bay of Port-Laguerre in Païta. It is responsible for the current name of the coral column that stands on the islet and was used as an indication for ships going to Port-de-France. Signal islet is renowned for its seabird watching and hiking trails that allow you to walk around the island in less than an hour.
