Bryher is the wildest and smallest of all the Isles of Scilly, with only 80 inhabitants. Bryher is only two kilometres long and no more than one kilometre wide. It has seen many shipwrecks in Hell Bay, especially in the 18th and 19th centuries, but today it is attractive for its expanses of heather and its magnificent fine sand, especially in Rushy Bay. South of Bryher is the uninhabited island of Samson. Tresco, Bryher and Samson can be reached on foot during spring tides. Shipman Head, the highest point of the island (alt. 42 m) gives a complete view of Bryher and its neighbour Tresco.
