Welcome to this 24 km 2 desert island located 15 km west of Coche, north of the Arraya peninsula. Why not visit the ruins of Nueva Cadiz, the first city founded in America that counted up to 8000 inhabitants? There are archaeological remains, including some 3 000 year old columbian dates. This city was born of the lucrative pearl trade (from 1510 to 1540), which then represented 30% of the riches of the King of Spain. Once Indian reserves are depleted by the extreme conditions of slavery (see box below), Africans are arriving. The island was engulfed in a tidal wave that buried the 2/3 of the island in 1541. Today the island is arid and dry with a few beaches where two fishermen's families live. Among them, José the fisherman, Iris, mom and his 6 children live here under rudimentary conditions, but their faces breathe the well-being and their smiles give us a wonderful lesson of life. If you go through this, a little milk will make them happy. Des do the trick and drop you down, if you are kiteur wait for an anthology session! On the other hand, plan water, sunscreen and food, unless the fish of the migrating fishermen on Cubagua are enough… what should be the case.
