With so many "touristy" villages in the area (Pitigliano, Saturnia...), Sorano is often forgotten on summer itineraries. So much the better! The village also rises up on its little tufa hump, overlooking the Lente valley. Its historical centre is splendid, closed to the south and north by the Orsini and Leopoldini fortresses. To see, the church Collegiata of San Nicola di Bari (12th century) and the palazzetto of the Orsini (15th century portal). In the vicinity of Sorano is the Etruscan necropolis of San Rocco, with chambered and half-timbered tombs. For opening times, ask at the tourist office in Piazza Busatti.
