Located on the E4, 26 km south of Gävle. This small town is mainly known for its sport fishing, which attracts thousands of anglers every year. Some 15 tons of salmon and sea trout are caught here each season (March1 to October 31); the most successful period is between March and April. Beautiful sandy beaches attract people in the summer. If you want a taste of the Baltic, this is the place to be. The population of Älvkarleby is about 1,600. There are a number of accommodations, including 3-star hotels. The town is filled with Swedish red wooden houses perched on the banks of water channels.
