Why are there so many red houses in Sweden? Why can Swedes only buy alcohol at systembolaget (liquor stores that close early)? Why are there goat sculptures and female symbols all over the city? The answers are in Falun! No wonder the slogan of this small town on the shores of Lake Runn is Falun is always a reason! Listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site, because of its old quarters made up of traditional wooden houses, some of which date back to the 17th century (Elsborg quarter), Falun is also known for its gigantic copper mine, which can still be visited today. Its historical importance is considerable and it alone deserves a visit to the region. The descent is simply grandiose and we learn for example that from this mine is extracted for hundreds of years the copper which gives the particular pigment to this red paint which dresses the traditional Swedish houses. This color is called Falu rödfärg in Swedish and has natural priorities that protect the wood from weathering. According to the legend, it was a goat that was responsible for the exploitation of copper and thus for the construction of the city of Falun, having found an entrance to the mine and having returned to his herd with a completely red coat.As for the systembolaget, it is in fact inspired by the "Falun system": the widow of a miner had decided to sell alcohol, but making too much money with her business, the government ordered that the profits go to the state and this is still the case today! Finally, as for the female symbol, it is also the symbol for copper, just as the male symbol is for steel!
