Malili, capital of Kabupaten Luwu Timur, Sulawesi Selatan province, is a kecamatan located around 565 km from Makassar. In 1972, PT Inco built the Losmen Satria expatriate camp here, in addition to the port and airfield. A stopover on the way to the key village: Saroaku.History reveals that Malili is the meeting place of the Padoe, an ethnic group respected in Luwu Timur since 1400 AD. Their warriors, the "pongkiari", helped the Luwu kingdom repel enemies from the south, marking a loyalty recognized by Datu Luwu. The exploits of the "pongkiari" are legendary, attributed to the formation of lakes Matano, Mahalona and Towuti during battles.
