Further north, you'll find Lake Matana ( or Lake Matano ), which is the second largest, covering 160 km². It is particularly deep, at almost 590 metres (ranked 8thamong the world's deepest lakes). Water skiing, sailing and other water sports are practiced here. These attractions are not the brainchild of the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism, but of the gigantic PT Inco company. The lake's perimeter is dotted with villages and numerous caves, some of which are still burial sites.
