On the road to Piteşti, 30 kilometers north of Slatina, Scorniceşti is the small town where Nicolae Ceauşescu was born. He spent ten years here. The museum opened in his honor was closed in 1989. It was here that the dictator decided to begin his systematization program, razing the village center to the ground to build blocks and a disproportionately large stadium. The drive through this town of 11,000 inhabitants is therefore a little desolate, but not without interest if you're interested in urban planning. All the more so as the only old house to have survived the massacre is none other than Ceauşescu's birthplace, which can be visited today.
