Anotto Bay was a prosperous port in the days of the great banana plantations. The town takes its name from the dye extracted from a tree native to Central America, the cootie, which used to grow here. The town, crossed by the Pencar River, stretches along a single street and is only animated on market days. The center retains an old-fashioned charm enhanced by the covered galleries that run along the old buildings. We will have a look at the old court and the Baptist church of 1894, a red and beige building with Romanesque arches. The railroad station has been out of use since Hurricane Allan hit in 1980
