Thethird largest city in the country has 145,000 inhabitants and is located on the right bank of the Rio Cobre, about 20 km east of Kingston. Today, it is one of the most dangerous areas of the island where crime and gangs settling of accounts are numerous. A local association is trying to revive the town, but national and even international support is needed. The commercial center, of which King's Street is the main artery, is nevertheless very lively on market days. Notice the House of Assembly built in 1762 with a nice wooden balcony.
