It is on the territory of the commune of Rutovu (Bururi province) that is situated the source of the White Nile, more than 6 000 km upstream from the Egyptian delta where the river épanche in the Mediterranean. The town of Rutovu itself, where one of the oldest Catholic missions in Burundi is located, is 120 km southeast of Bujumbura and kilometres northwest of Rutana.Coming from Rutana via the RN 7, on the left there is a road that climbs towards the centre of Rutovu (2 050 m altitude). At the end of 3-4 km begins the village, and a few hundred meters further, we fall on the old church of the mission. Nearby is the Normal School where several leaders and officials of the country have been trained for decades. It is in Rutovu that you can shelter and feed before you visit the source of the Nile.
