Pohang is one of the largest cities on the east coast (510,000 inhabitants) but it remains a provincial city. Although originally a port, it is famous for the POSCO metallurgical centre, the second largest complex of its kind in the world. That does not add to the charm of this city, alas. One of the main reasons to come to Pohang is to leave, we could say badly. There are indeed some interesting sites not far from the city, and it is especially a good starting point to the beautiful island of Ulleungdo.
