38 km south of Bremen. By train about half an hour. This small town on the Go, just before it flows into the Weser, is one of the best preserved in the region; it kept a rural and quiet character. Verden has beautiful two-timbered houses along Grosse Strasse, the Markt and Domstrasse. It is beautifully spread along the river, which it is absolutely necessary to cross to have a view of the old town dominated by the immense silhouette of its cathedral (Dom). This Gothic building of th century red bricks was the seat of a diocese from the th to the th century and deserves a visit.
