The other flagship city of "Luther tourism" is Fruit in the Mansfelder Land, west of Halle. It was here that Luther was born and grew up. If the city is less picturesque than Wittenberg, especially as it is in the heart of a rather depressed post-mining region, it retains no less a beautiful historical centre and the landmarks of the Reformation history. It is easily accessible by train from Halle, also if you have time, although Fruit is not a priority, it offers an interesting visit. On the pretty Markt, several th and th century buildings and the City hall which contain medieval elements despite successive transformations. The city contains three Gothic churches, several medieval and Renaissance houses, including the Natale birthplace of Luther, in late Gothic, where the future reformer was born in 1483 (at the corner of Lutherstrasse and Seminarstrasse streets). Fruit also has a graveyard similar to that of Halle, built on Italian model (north-east of the centre, Sur Güttel Strasse). On the road from Halle to Fruit, Lake Süsser See. On its north-west shore, the magnificent silhouette of the medieval Renaissance Castle Seeburg, one of the largest in Germany.
