With a population of 600,000, it is the 31 st most populous city in the United States. Milwaukee is located 150 km north of Chicago on the shores of Lake Michigan. The eastern part of the city is built on the hill and dominates the lake and Juneau Park, a gigantic strip of greenery caught between the lake and the city. Milwaukee is crossed by three rivers joining before winning the lake: Milwaukee River descends from the north and crosses the city center in front of the terraces. The Menominee River comes from the west and runs through a highly industrial neighborhood, the Menominee Valley; finally, the Kinnickinnic River goes south and throws itself into the first two. Milwaukee is a small city, very nice to visit. With its dozens of parks and lake front, it offers great opportunities for sports activities, walks and relaxation. We also benefit from its cultural diversity, visible in the streets of its historic neighborhoods. Before Milwaukee became Milwaukee, the Founding Fathers did not at all strive to unify the city and each developed their own city center. This is still apparent today when crossing the Milwaukee River or moving away from the current downtown. Although German influence dominates it, there are also Polish, Spanish or African-American influences. In Indian, "Milliocki" means "gathering place near the water". The city pays tribute to its name by organizing each year the largest music festival in the United States - Summerfest - on the shores of Lake Michigan. Eleven days of festivities, eleven scenes and dozens of poster heads create an electric atmosphere, not counting all the other ethnic festivals organized throughout the summer.
