SITE HISTORIQUE NATIONAL DE PASPÉBIAC
Historical site composed of buildings of the two most important Jersey companies exporting salted and dried cod.
The eleven buildings on the site belonged to the world's two largest Jersey exporters of salted/dried cod: Robin and LeBoutillier Brothers. They made Paspébiac the cod capital of the world, having established one of the first sedentary fishing posts on the Gaspé Peninsula. Costumed guides recreate the atmosphere of the 18th and 19th centuries, with demonstrations of traditional trades such as barge building and period nail making. You can also visit the various buildings of these two companies: carpentry, cook-room, cooperage, forge and others in the Robin sector; office, shed and warehouse (recognized as the largest wood-frame building in North America) in the LeBoutillier Brothers sector. Several guided tours are offered daily. Before you leave, be sure to stop by the gift store, which sells arts, crafts and regional products. A must-see in the Baie-des-Chaleurs region!
It should be noted that the Paspébiac National Historic Site has begun restoring its buildings, the first phase of which was completed at the start of the 2025 summer season, and that the famous L'Ancre restaurant is unfortunately no longer open to the public. The latter has in fact been entrusted to a concession that manages it to meet the needs of the bus groups that visit the site.
