Experience the Mi'gmaq in Gaspé! Located on a promontory on the north shore of Gaspé Bay, nestled against the mountain and just a stone's throw from the forest, the Micmac de Gespeg Interpretation Site will help you discover this nation from past to present, its occupation of Gaspé territory, its history and culture. Explore the Mi'gmaq world through the interpretation center and native crafts boutique, and the faithful reconstruction of a traditional village and summer camp as found in the 17th century. Come rain or shine, enjoy a unique experience on Mi'gmaq land, in the presence of guides-interpreters and craftspeople who are members of the nation. You'll appreciate their ancestral know-how and their contribution to the Gaspé community. Guided tours of the interpretation site are available in French and English by reservation, and last a maximum of two hours (times and rates are available on the website). Please note that the site is always closed between 12pm and 1pm. For group bookings, please contact them directly to arrange your visit on site.

ABOUT
The community's history dates back to the 16th century, when the Mi'gmaq settled permanently in Gaspé Bay. In their village of Gespeg, our ancestors maintained ties with European fishermen for several decades. The Récollet Chrestien Le Clercq begins his mission among the Mi'gmaq, leaving behind writings that paint a representative picture of daily native life. Although new products and foreign influences make their appearance, the Mi'gmaq of the time nevertheless retain their traditional values and way of life, living in close relationship with the natural world around them.
CREATION OF THE GESPEG MICMAC INTERPRETATION SITE
Three centuries later, Gespeg is once again imbued with the atmosphere of the period, as a reproduction of a camp and an interpretation site are erected, allowing visitors to discover the world of the Micmacs through the four seasons. This place of exchange fosters the preservation of our traditions and in-depth knowledge of the environment, and showcases the knowledge we've acquired over the years. The guided tour and permanent exhibition relate this knowledge and demonstrate the daily lives of our ancestors through a variety of objects and interpretive tools. A boutique on the second floor showcases a variety of Mi'kmaq handicrafts.
