Its name, of Basque origin, means "tongue of land". A former trading post, this village is home to fishermen and an Innu community who live here in harmony. The Mingan River, part of which belongs to the Ekuanitshit Innu Council, which has been restoring it since 1983, is a renowned salmon river. You can admire the magnificent waterfalls (picnic site). The small church in the centre of the village is worth a visit, if only for the Innu artworks that decorate the interior. The Maison de la culture innue is also worth a visit, as it highlights the traditions, daily life, language and culture of this thousand-year-old people.
