The island of Gabriola is ideal for relaxing stays, without excluding adventure. As in most of the neighbouring islands, the main activities revolve around art, music and farms. The shopping area of Folklife Village offers excellent art galleries. Sandwell Provincial Park is one of the most beautiful beaches on Gabriola, and Drumbeg Provincial Park offers ideal beaches for swimming. Gabriola is famous for its petroglyphs (prehistoric engraved stones), hence its nickname "Petroglyph Island", especially near the United Church (10 km from the ferry). Accessible by ferry from Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, cycling is the best way to explore the island at your own pace once you get there.
