154 km from Kinshasa, the town of Mbanza-Ngungu lies along the Matadi-Kinshasa railroad line. The town's highest point is 785 meters above sea level. This location ensures pleasant temperatures all year round. With a population of around 200,000, Mbanza Ngungu is the third-largest city in Central Kongo. Mbanza Ngungu's tourist attraction is its caves. They are home to a protected species of fish, the blind fish. Located to the south-east of the town, only three of the caves are accessible. These are the Lukatu, Dimba or Finzolua Ndombolozi and Ngovo caves.
