This population of Magellanic penguins (several thousand individuals) is located 65 km north of Punta Arenas, on an area of 80 hectares on the edge of the Otway estuary. However, if you know Punta Tombo in Argentina, near Puerto Madryn, you should skip it, it is much less spectacular. Otherwise, the visit is quite pleasant, although a bit overrated. During our last visit, there did not seem to be many penguins! We can visit the site from October to March. A circular path of about one kilometer leads you to different observation points and to a platform built on a beach (the most interesting site). Many agencies in Punta Arenas organize tours.
