Founded as a fort in 1868, the small town of Contulmo borders Lake Lanalhue at the foot of the Nahuelbuta mountain range. If the tourist activity is concentrated more in the surroundings of the lake, the city also has some assets. In 1884, the city welcomed a group of Berlin immigrants from the agricultural and craft industries. The first German school in the country was founded here in 1893. If you want to learn more about this colonial heritage, don't miss Millaray Street where you will find the heritage houses of Pfaff, Vyhmeister, Hotel Central and Casa Geister (where Pablo Neruda lived), dating from the 1890s.
