The city is not only named after a maharaja, but also after the sweetest milk cakes in India. When you arrive, the rickshaws rush by: in the off season, the arrival of a tourist is a godsend, a curiosity creating a surprising crowd. Alwar is not a very touristy city and is rather known for its numerous universities, five of which are private. It is a quiet student city where you don't see many cars. Indians come here to do business, especially in the textile industry, but also to study medicine or simply to walk around. Alwar is a very green city, as Nehru would have wanted for the whole of India.
