Jajce/Јајце (pronounced "yaitse") has a population of about 7,000, of which 45% are Bosnian-Croats and 45% are Bosniaks. It is the capital of the municipality of Jajce (population 27,000), in the canton of Central Bosnia (Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina).Jajce is located at 375 m above sea level, at the confluence of two impetuous rivers with the Pliva, which flows with all its strength into the Vrbas. It was the last city to be captured by the Ottomans in 1527, but it also has some rarities such as a Gothic church, one of the two mosques in the country named after a woman, a Roman temple dedicated to an Indo-Iranian god, and a royal tomb decorated with Bogomil symbols. This architectural and natural ensemble is inscribed since 2006 on the Unesco's tentative list for a world heritage classification.
