Things to see and do Aljezur

Wedged between two large black cliffs, this superb beach extends for at least 300 m, like a creek whose size would have been indefinitely extended. It is nevertheless narrow, blocked between the waves that lick it and a large cliff, closed by a large stone needle. It is one of the local people's favourite places to come and sunbathe. Exceptional spot reserved for very good surfers. On the heights, the ruins of the Arrifana fort offer a breathtaking and unforgettable view. A magical beach.

He alone deserves to be seen all over Europe. This park stretches over a little over 100 km, from Porto Covo in the Alentejo to Burgau, east of Sagres in the Algarve, at the very end of Europe. How can you remain insensitive to the character of its steep and severe cliffs, to its palette of colours as numerous as there are minutes of sunshine in a day, to the calm of its beaches? The white stork makes its nest here.

It is obvious that it was not built there by chance. Older civilizations had already chosen this site as a strategic military point. The first traces would even go back to the Iron Age, around 1100 BC. Two towers still stand and mark the end of a long wall that has hardly been altered since its construction. Inside, we can see an Arabic cistern. If some effort is required to achieve this, the beautiful view from the heights is the right reward.

The local park protection office gives all the information on it. It extends from Alentejo to the Algarve over a coastal area that rarely exceeds 6 km wide and 120 km long, from the south of Sines to the tip of Cabo de São Vicente and beyond to Burgau. There are 60,624 ha of cliffs, shale and limestone coves and 28,992 ha of sea areas. An area where the osprey, the red-billed bitch, or carnivorous bats roam freely.
