Large English park and castle in romantic style, with fountains and lawns under the protective shade of vegetation.

Need some peace and quiet after the hustle and bustle of the historic center? Then head for the heart of Monserrate, a magnificent English-style botanical park dominated by an oriental-style palace. A retreat for writers, Monserrate attracted many foreign visitors, mainly of English origin, who extolled the beauty of the place in travelogues and engravings. Francis Cook, a wealthy 19th-century English industrialist and art collector, fell under the spell of the place, and from this passion was born this masterpiece of Romanticism. Exuberant gardens with exotic species from all over the world, and a palace that is a veritable ode to romantic architecture. As soon as you enter, you're catapulted into a dense jungle that leads to the ruins of an overgrown chapel. Organized into different sections, the garden invites you to discover flora from near and far. Stroll through the Mexican Garden amidst aloes and cacti, the Japanese Garden with its bamboos and camellias, or the superb rose garden with its bewitching fragrances. After this bath in nature, visit the palace, worthy of a tale from the Arabian Nights. Inside, admire the ornaments, carved wooden doors, tiles, vaulted ceilings and indoor fountains. A true architectural gem! The little plus? The site is much less crowded with tourists than Sintra's other monuments. Jackpot!

Super palais mais accès un peu compliqué
Le Palais de Monserrate est magnifique et moins fréquenté que d’autres sites de Sintra, ce qui rend la visite très agréable. En revanche, il y a peu d’informations sur la navette pour y monter : nous avons attendu un moment, et elle était très petite (à peine 20 places). Nous avons pris un Uber pour redescendre.

Un très beau palais à taille humaine !

Il est beaucoup moins fréquenté que d'autres sites présents à Sintra mais il en vaut clairement le détour.

Un palais calme et magnifique
La maison est d'inspiration mauresque et indienne, le jardin est typiquement anglais avec des plantes mexicaines. Quel plaisir de se voir se mélanger toutes ces cultures dans un seul lieu et de déambuler dans le parc de ce palais dans le calme et loin de la foule. Il n'y a pas grande chose à voir à l'intérieur mais son architecture ne vous laissera pas de marbre. 8€ bien investi !

Il serait fort dommage de rater ce palais excentré mais excentrique! D'un style mauresque magnifique, perdu au beau milieu d'un parc magnifique, il n'est cependant pas très bien desservi car en septembre, la navette ne passait que toutes les heures.

Un palais qui change des autres châteaux de Sintra! De style mauresque, il est très beau de l'intérieur et de l'extérieur. Très grand jardin à découvrir à pied!
