An amazing quinta, recently opened to the public and worth visiting for its originality. Built at the beginning of the 20th century in the purest romantic tradition, it is the fruit of the imagination of two men, its owner (Carvalho Monteiro, a man of immense culture who made his fortune in Brazil) and an Italian (Luigi Manini, the same architect who built the hotel-palace in Buçaco), who allowed the "revivalist" confluence of artistic genres as far apart as the Gothic, Manueline or Renaissance style.
You can visit the gardens, the Palace of the Millions, a true philosophical residence of alchemical inspiration, the fabulous exotic park and the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, which gives access to the crypt. Within the quinta, a set of towers overlooks magnificent panoramas; in addition, small charming pavilions and numerous terraces invite contemplation. But the highlight of the visit is the descent, through a huge spiral staircase, into the depths of the imposing well. At the very bottom, with your feet resting on an eight-pointed star, you have the impression of being engulfed in the bowels of the Earth. Mystical! Then, all that remains is to cross the caves and the labyrinths to reach the light. A real opera set, where everything is deliberate and nothing was designed by chance!
