The latest addition to Lisbon, the museum, which opened on June1, 2022, is the third in the world to display the jewels of a country's royal treasury, after the United Kingdom and Austria. It is the second richest museum in the world after the British Crown Jewels. Unique in its size and state-of-the-art security system, it is in fact a vault of 4,000m3, one of the largest in the world, which was built in the west wing of the Ajuda Palace. This royal treasure museum contains most of the pieces that Portugal has managed to keep in its vaults. More than a thousand pieces that belonged to the Portuguese royalty, for nine centuries, are displayed on three floors. Plunged into the darkness, you will discover collections of gold jewelry encrusted with rubies, diamonds and other precious stones, including an emblematic piece.
